Acing All Types of Interview Questions
Hello,
Your Workplace Culture Guide here again.
This month is all about acing interviews and landing your next best role. We have something for you at the end of this letter😉so read on.
Interview questions come in different ways. They could be behavioural, technical, or culture-fit focused. They could also be around your purpose, direction, career growth, decision-making abilities, future goals, etc. No matter how prepared you are for an interview, there are questions that you may still never feel 100% ready for. So, how do you answer such questions?
When asked behavioural questions, be ready to share real-life examples that highlight your skills and experiences. Remember the STAR method: Situation, Task, Action, and Result. Don’t know what it is? Check here. The good thing about behavioural questions is that they can be easily answered with the STAR method. Questions like: ‘Tell me about a time…,’ ‘Describe when…,’ ‘What do you do in a situation where…’
We will consider two questions that you may not have been ready for.
How best do you work?Â
The key to answering this question is to elaborate. Do not talk about how you work well alone or in a team. Set yourself apart by showcasing specific scenarios where you have worked independently and in a team.Â
Talk about a solo project you are proud of. Also, share a successful group accomplishment. Just remember to highlight your contributions to the group project.Â
Why have you changed jobs many times?
You have to be thoughtful and strategic when answering this question.Â
Explain why you took on each role; it could be you changing locations, the company shutting down, or not getting the desired job satisfaction.Â
Showcase your adaptability and resilience by discussing how challenges in previous roles were turned into opportunities for professional development and have prepared you for the role you are currently applying for.
Highlight how job changes allowed you to expand your skills and have consistent achievements, making you a well-rounded professional.
The goal is to lead them to where you are now: your passion and interest, and the steps you may have taken to demonstrate your desire for a role within the company. For example, a course or learning in the area you are interviewing for.
Conclude by expressing that, after gaining valuable experiences, you are seeking stability and a long-term commitment with a company where you can contribute meaningfully.
