Hello there👋and welcome to yet another edition of Your Workplace Culture Guide!
Can you believe 2024 is almost over?? It is that time of the year when we look back and reflect on the previous months, just before the celebrations begin. Reflecting on the year can feel overwhelming, but it should not be. We have a step by step process to help you recognise your growth. Keep reading.
Celebrate Your Wins
Take a moment to think about what the highlight of the year is for you. Pick up a pen or open your note app and jot down 3-5 things that you’re really proud of, go on and give yourself some credit. Remember, no win is too small to count. It could be meeting a deadline, relating more with your colleagues, or even just staying calm in a tricky situation….write it down.
Reflect on Your Setbacks
Of course, we recognize that not every moment was perfect or your best. Instead of viewing those moments as ‘challenges’ we would like you to think of them as ‘setbacks’—opportunities for growth and learning. We all faced setbacks this year, at least we know we did. Now is the time to look back and self reflect;
What were my biggest setbacks, and how did I handle them?
What strengths or skills did I discover during that experience?
What lesson did I learn from that setback?
Did that experience shape me positively or negatively?
What will I do differently if I’m faced with a similar situation in the future?
Remember, the focus is not to dwell on what went wrong but on how these experiences helped you grow and improve.
Identify Your Growth
You probably honed your skills in ways that you might not realise. Maybe you have become better at managing your time, staying organised or you are more confident in speaking up at meetings. Take a moment to think about the skills you improved or picked up. They don’t have to be huge– it’s often the small improvements that make the biggest difference over time. Recognising these skills helps you to appreciate your progress and keeps you motivated while on your journey.
Breathe and Reboot
On that reflective note, take some time to celebrate yourself, both the big wins and the small victories, every growth counts. As the year winds down, let the festive season be a reminder to pause, recharge, and enjoy the fruits of your hard work.
Moving Ahead
If you’re already thinking ahead to the new year, why not start with a strong foundation? Earlier this year, we shared a newsletter on Goal Setting In the New Year, it has practical tips to help you create meaningful and achievable goals. It’s the best time to revisit it and get inspired.
Reflecting does not have to be overwhelming! Take the learnings from your personal reflection and growth from this year to 2025. Think of it as continuing a journey, not starting
Before we wrap up, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you in advance!
