Elections, Work and People

Hello,

Your Workplace Culture Guide here again.

How are you feeling in the past week?

The Presidential Elections were held over the weekend, and we are all anticipating the results. Emotions are heightened as people engage in discussions around the election. This can lead to agitation and decreased productivity, as people monitor all channels to stay informed. How do you ensure your teams are able to carry out their tasks in the middle of the hullabaloo?

Here are some ways to support your teams during this time.

  • Check in with your teams and find out how they are. Ask how they feel after the elections and encourage them to express their feelings while being considerate of others with different opinions.

  • Reiterate your company values to allow for healthy and respectful conversations across political differences.

  • Encourage employees to stay mindful and focused on output.

  • Provide a forum (maybe a group therapy) for employees who feel anxious or tense.

  • Allow for some changes in behaviour.

  • As leaders, make sure you are letting off steam by speaking to trusted people as well.

Check out our previous newsletters here and here on building great work cultures.

As always, here are our job opportunities in February.

Until March, happy cultur-ing.
